D&DFHS September 2020 Online Members’ Meeting

The Society is pleased to announce it’s first online members’ meeting using the Zoom video conferencing software.

Human Cargo; South Yorkshire’s Links to Slavery

The talk will be given by David Adgar, who will be looking at:

  • how The Earl of Strafford negotiated a 30 year exclusive right to trade slaves in the Spanish Empire,
  • Cannon Hall and Brodsworth’s links to slavery,
  • the 1807 election and Anne Rawson’s campaign to abolish slavery also
  • a look at Doncaster residents who gained compensation after abolition.

This is a Society members-only event and pre-registration is required. Depending on demand, numbers may need to be limited on a first-come, first-served basis.
