We are delighted to announce that we have been involved in an important project to commemorate Sir Nigel Gresley and his links to our great city.

This all started last year, when our Secretary Marion (pictured here with other members of the joint group), discovered the houses where Sir Nigel Gresley had resided at in Doncaster, and secured a copy of the deeds for the house on Avenue Road.

The intial idea was to push for a blue plaque to be put onto one or both of these houses, but for some very good reasons this couldn’t happen, so it was decided to form a group of interested organisations to design and place a plaque at Doncaster Railway Station.

This is the plaque, and it will be unveiled on the 19th June 2025 (exactly 150 years since Gresleys’s birth) at the Railway Station, along with an interpretation/information board explaining who he was, and what he achieved.

The organisations involved in this include (links to websites are added):

It is with special thanks to LNER that this project was granted the permission to go ahead, and Bill McHugh’s superb support from the council has been vital.
